About this workshop

My main objective is to offer you a different experience by sharing with you my experience acquired over the years in dog photography, but also to give you the opportunity to make quality and authentic dog pictures. During this workshop, I would like to inspire you through photo sessions with canine models of different breeds, colors, sizes and characters. We will learn to work with their owners in a natural setting with patience and artistic research.

Schedule first day - 22 October

The first day will start with a theoretical part where I will share with you how I work with owners and their dogs. This includes the following topics:

  • Choice of cameras and lenses
  • Main mistakes made in dog photography
  • Controlling exposure and autofocus and image quality
  • How to work with dogs
  • Shooting techniques for dog portraits
  • How to understand the dog’s expression, study of body language
  • How and why the dog’s attitude changes the image
  • How to behave with a client
  • How to use natural and artificial light
  • How to give depth to your portraits
  • And much more…

We will discuss together your main problems encountered during your photo sessions with dogs in order to continue the day properly.

Our first session will take place in the forest and the lake nearby the hotel. We will study the possibilities as well as the light, how to position yourself and how to emphasize the model in the environment.

Theory part: 9am-2pm

Practice: 3pm-7pm

Planning second day - 23 October

We will review your photos from the previous day’s session. I will point out the positive points concerning your evolution as well as the points to improve during the next photo session. You will also be able to ask me questions on various subjects. I will share with you my complete Photoshop post-processing workflow and answer your questions about certain retouching techniques that you would like to learn or better understand. This includes the following topics:

  • How to import and select photos from a shoot
  • Basics of Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw
  • Controlling image quality through initial adjustments
  • How to beautify eyes and hair
  • How to use luminosity masks
  • How to harmonize the image and soften it if necessary

  • How to adjust the colors
  • How to add depth to the portrait
  • How to adjust the light on the dog and the background
  • Dodge and Burn

We will end the day at the lake for a second guided photo session with different models. The purpose of this session is to apply the points seen earlier and to refine your techniques once again under my guidance.
